Instant Poll:Do you know if your college or alma mater is committed to reducing its carbon footprint by signing the Presidents’ Climate Commitment Letter? Take our poll now.
The American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), a high-visibility effort to address global warming through achieving carbon neutrality at college campuses, cites that higher education is a $317 billion dollar industry employing millions of people and spending billions of dollars on fuel, energy and infrastructure. In fact, buildings account for 40 percent of energy use and 70 percent of electricity use in the U.S. This represents a huge impact on our country’s current and future carbon footprint.
If the college you know and love is signed on to the letter, then what does that mean and what are they doing? According to the ACUPCC, they are "pledging to eliminate their campuses’ net greenhouse gas emissions in a reasonable period of time as determined by each institution." They are taking tangible steps and building a culture and curriculum to make a better tomorrow.
