Sodexo Health Care - Making a Difference

by Guest Blogger, Victor Prillwitz, General Manager at Mt. San Antonio Gardens

"Victor and his team do a truly outstanding job with managing the Housekeeping program at Mt. San Antonio Gardens. The Residents recently completed a survey and the results tell us 99% of them are satisfied with the Housekeeping and Laundry services we provide. We also found equally outstanding results from the client employees who are 100% satisfied with the services we provide. Congratulations!"

-Kishore Manwar, District Manager, Sodexo Senior Services

The Housekeepers in my department do more than just "show up" to work every day. They make a difference. Each day they are given their assignment sheets listing the units and areas that need to be cleaned for the day. Everybody has been trained on the cleaning procedure so there are no questions as to what needs to be done to each unit. No where written on these forms is anything stating: interact with residents, make a resident smile or anything to that extent. Day in and day out the Mt. San Antonio Gardens Housekeeping team does just that! Each individual does this because they want to - not because they have to.

You often hear that Housekeeping is a profession that does not feel “appreciated.” We go about our jobs and lives without always taking that time to say "thank you" to the people who take care of us. We know our residents appreciate the services provided by our Housekeeping team because they tell us they do. Not only do the like the cleaning service they also enjoy the company of them as well.

National Health Care Environmental Services and Housekeeping Week is recognized by the American Hospital Association to acknowledge the contribution of the environmental services and housekeeping teams through out the US. Environmental Services and Housekeeping Week is all about showing appreciation. For us, it's also about showing each Housekeeper on the Mt. San Antonio Gardens team how important they are to our community.

The official appreciation week was September 12-19, 2010 but we celebrated a little early this year with a luncheon on Friday, September 10. In addition to the team we also invited our Human Resources Director and our CEO. We also invited the maintenance department to join us since we work hand in hand with them daily. It gave everybody a time to relax and enjoy each other’s company while eating some great food. We celebrated Environmental Services and Housekeeping Week everyday that week as a department but, I think my favorite day of the week was "Game Day!" We played “Wheel of Housekeeping” with a variety of prizes for our winners. In my view though, I am the real winner to have the honor to be a part of this team and I wanted to send an extra special THANK YOU post Environmental Services and Housekeeping Week to our Housekeepers. You truly "Make Every Day A Better Day," just by doing your jobs!
