Every day when I sit down to work I open Tweetdeck and scan through my saved searches to see what people are talking about. I always find something someone is tweeting about that needs to be retweeted or forwarded to a colleague. Twitter is by far my favorite communication tool and I follow some of the best minds out there.
I follow people who are tweeting about social recruiting - if you are a job seeker and you want to know how to use Twitter to find a job then you need to follow the social recruiting conversations. Pay attention and learn how recruiters are using the tool to find candidates so that you can turn it around and use Twitter to find recruiters and your next career. I follow people who are tweeting about Marketing, Employer Branding and Social Media in general to learn how I can use Twitter and other social networking sites to connect with Sodexo brand ambassadors. I'm learning from some of the best in the industry all day, every day.
I also follow people on Twitter who are tweeting about things in general that interest me like why in the world Top Chef Just Desserts contestant Seth Caro was crying over red hots (yes, the candy) on Wednesday night's episode. If you missed it, he actually said - for all of America to hear, "The red hots are for my Mommy!" as he was hugging guest judge, Pastry Chef, Elizabeth Falkner. It was embarrassing.
Bottom line Twitter is a news source for me - industry news , professional news, entertainment news, and even mainstream news during the day. Most days the news stories I hear on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric (sorry Brian - she's my favorite) have already been discussed on Twitter, which makes me feel in touch as I am conquering the employer brand world in my little home office here in Annapolis, Maryland. I take my Twitter very seriously. Very seriously.
Which is why I was so excited to see that as of this morning the @SodexoCareers (my Twitter profile) community is now 5,000 followers strong! I don't know about you but in my mind the number 5000 is a milestone and milestones = memories.
Can I please get a woo-hoo about this?
