Even the Storm of the Century Couldn't Stop Sodexo

Continuing the celebration of Sodexo's Environmental Services/Housekeeping professionals with the fourth of four guest blog posts. We want to express our deepest thanks for 'making every day a better day' for our patients, residents, families and staff - not just during National Environmental Services Week (September 12-18), but all year long!

Even Storm of the Century Couldn't Stop us!
By Guest Blogger, Ed Windhaus, Housekeeping Manager at Deer Meadows Retirement Community in Northeast Philadelphia, PA.

I've been working with Sodexo Senior Services in Environmental Services for a little over a year now. This past winter we had a series of snow storms with in a two week period. Some would say these were the storms of the century. We were hit hard! During these storms buses were not running so it was very difficult for any of the employees at Deer Meadows Retirement Community to get to work. In our work a little (or a lot) snow makes no difference. The people we care for still need us. Many of our team members from maintenance, security, dining services, nursing, housekeeping to laundry and patient activities stayed over night to make sure our residents would be taken care during this time. It wasn't a "snow day" for us. It was our goal to make sure our patients and their care was our priority. On these nights of the snow storms we not only had our regular guests - our patients - we also had employees from all different departments in the facility staying . Extra guests meant extra work for the Environmental Services team.

What I admire the most about our staff is they didn't hesitate to put their patient first by staying over night at the facility to make sure that the resident’s were well taken care of.

And then, after completing their work for the patients, the Environmental Services team worked just as hard to make sure that all their fellow employees who were also staying the night were well taken care of. The Environmental Services team gave their regular 100% even though they themselves were displaced from their families, from their homes and from their own beds. They put our patients first and always with a smile on their faces. To me, this shows how dedicated Sodexo Environmental Services teams are to their jobs. So dedicated even the storms of the century couldn't stop them! Our Environmental Services team members truly care and I can't express how proud I am to be a part of the team.

What better way to recognize all of our team members by celebrating their hard work and dedication not just during Environmental Services week but all year long?

To all of our Environmental Services teams and on behalf of all of Sodexo - THANK YOU!
