E Pluribus Unum .... loosely translated: "Out of many, one." American History 101, right? Every time I hear that motto, I can't help but think about Sodexo's Talent Acquisition Team. We're a team of 80 (with a couple of new arrivals expected shortly) and yet we're "one team." Like our country, Sodexo's Talent Acquisition Group is diverse and innovative, but united in purpose.
Am I sounding like Betty White? Sorry, I can't help it, she's been in my head since SNL.
I'm just so proud of this team. I've been told that I beam with pride every time I have an opportunity to talk about its successes and contributions to the company over the last 5 years. Pride is one emotion you can't fake. The team was built with one goal in mind.... to attract, recruit and retain top talent for Sodexo USA. Sodexo is the 22nd largest employer in the world, with 380,000 employees. In the US alone we have 110,000 employees at more than 6000 locations. Even during these challenging economic times we continue to hire. We are a growing company with aggressive growth goals, and as a result we have ambitious recruiting goals...to attract the very best talent to ensure a competitive advantage for our company and its clients. Part of the company's success hinges on our ability to recruit the best and in order to recruit the best we need to be on top of our game. And, man, are we on top of our game.
Yes, we spend a lot of time looking at trends and analyzing data in order to prepare for the future today. We explore technologies to find new ways of connecting with the best talent, but in the end it's 100% about people. When our recruiters believe in the company they are able to give voice to the culture. If you take all of the members of Sodexo's Talent Acquisition Group you get one awesome team. E Pluribus Unum.
One secret to our success is our performance culture which mirrors our company culture. We value customers, team work, and innovation, celebrate best practices and reward on results. Even though our team is a virtual one, we are always recognizing the creative or innovative approaches of individuals and of the team as a whole and, most important, we have fun. It's a simple formula. We celebrate creativity, value diversity of thought and perspective, we encourage each person to invest in their own development, grow as individuals and with the company, and we have fun.
By having our Talent Acquisition Group members work virtually from home offices we are able to hire the very best recruiters without geographic limitations. This coupled with a culture that focuses on development, mentoring, and excellence not only helps us attract top talent but to retain it. Virtual or not, we're a group of innovative and creative Sodexo employees and the sum makes one unified and highly productive team. Maybe now you understand why I think about our team every time I hear or think about the motto "E Pluribus Unum?"
Winning awards like the ERE award for Best Recruiting Department for 2010, the SNCR Excellence in New Communications Awards and the Onrec Most Innovative Employee Referral Program and Most Innovative College Recruitment Program this year has been an honor for us. However, given the company culture, its no wonder we are able to develop innovative approaches to recruiting top talent.
BTW, did I mention we have fun doing it?
