I was introduced to Twitter one day and the next I knew we were on to something. Some might even say, I'm a Twitterholic, but of course the people who are saying this are not "twexperts." What I'm really addicted to is making connections and learning. I can't say I make a new connection every day, but I can say I learn something new every day. It's all about information -- and that is what I am really addicted to. I've never been happy with status quo.
Through a process known as Crowd Sourcing Sodexo's Twitter story has been included in a book called, Twitterville written by well known social media author Shel Israel (@ shelisrael). Twitterville is a compilation of compelling stories and actionable insights about how businesses, large, small, for-profit, non-profit are using Twitter to make an impact. This is a great book to help businesses, whether involved with Twitter, or not, understand why it matters. Though most on our team are regularly tweeting I've ordered the book for all since it will help progress our group with a deep understanding of the conversation and may provide new leanings that they will apply to our business.
Because Sodexo was featured in the book for our use of Twitter for recruiting, I was invited to the book launch party - tBASH. Little did I know that in Silicon Valley standard party attire is t-shirt and jeans, I got over that pretty quickly and went on to meet some fabulous people who are also in the book. People like Scot Townsend of United Linen & Uniform Services (@UnitedLinen) , Aneta Hall (@AnetaH) with Pitney Bowes, Sashi Bellamkonda (@ Shashib) of Network Solutions, Janis Krums (@JKrums) citizen journalist (took famous photo of the miracle on the Hudson, informing the world via Twitter), Katie Paine (@KDPaine) the Social Media measuring guru, and so many more amazing people with very interesting stories. I was very fortunate to meet Shel Israel (@shelIsrael) and his wife Paula who are both as warm as the neighborhood described in Twitterville. I also had the opportunity to meet other Twitter luminaries like Robert Scoble (@Scobleizer) and Jeremiah Owyang (@Jowyang) I had a wonderful conversation with Jeremiah who is as brilliant as his reputation. Can you believe he asked me where I thought social media was going next, a question I rather skillfully turned back on him.
When asked where we thought Social Media was going, I said the future would be more toward mobile; Aneta Hall with Pitney Bowes said she thought the future would be more toward real time search and Jeremiah combined the two and said real time and place search on mobile social networks. I wasn't sure how to best describe the conversation here but then on Saturday I was excited to see a tweet below from Jeremiah (@Jowyang) that describes just what he shared at the Shel Israel #tbrunch.

What IS next?!? It's the million dollar question, right? I'm sure we were asking the same question back when the internet or email was developed? The speed of adoption for the new forms of communication is mind boggling. I don't know if anyone knows where it will take us and where we will be just one year from now. I can tell you Sodexo will likely be there and I am looking forward to reading this blog post a year from now so I can look back on the "good old days."
I'd love to hear what you think is next. What new tools will be available? Where is the conversation going?

It is neat that your company was featured in the Twitterville book.
For me Twitter is a place to connect with new people and find interesting links that I would not normally be exposed to.
I agree that the future is "real time and place search on mobile social networks" and am working on a project that is in that space.
Hi Arie,
It was great to see the 2 part posts on your entry to the social networks and how it was applied to recruiting. Virtual Second Life Career fairs ! Wow ! thats a good way to use the Social network. It was great to meet you at #tbash.
Did you have a lot of training imparted to your team ? I agree with your recommendation on Twitterville.
Regards,
Shashi
Great posts Arie! It is absolutely amazing to see how far we've come in 6 years. The possibilities are endless with ever changing technologies allowing us to get our brand out there in every way/form possible. Like you, I too look forward to seeing how "old school" this post will be. - Darla

Shashi,
In the beginning we held a training sessions for our recruiters and we regularly work together to stay in tuned on how best to use our social networks for recruiting. It's really a team effort - and it's exciting to see how they are using these tools. I'm so impressed with the creativity of the entire team!
Looking forward to catching up soon.
