Grease is the word, is the word...

I am a huge Grease fan - always have been and always will be. If you ask me a question about the movie I'll have the answer and will probably follow up my answer by reciting a scene from the movie. It's always a thrill to catch it on TV by chance on Bravo or TBS or even better on HBO (no commercials) and when I am alone in the house I may or may not break out in my own version of the song, "Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee" which is my favorite song from the movie. Being a 1970 baby I feel justified to claim Grease (released in 1978) as a classic Gen X movie and it brings back great memories of my childhood much like Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, Love Boat, and who could forget the Donnie & Marie Show?!

Flash forward 30 years.

Last Saturday as I sat with my daughter (who was born in 2000) watching High School Musical for the 12th time something hit me. High School Musical (HSM) is her Grease. The singing and dancing scene in the cafeteria is reminiscent of the scene in Grease where Frenchy introduces Sandra Dee to the Pink Ladies for the first time. If you've seen both of these movies you might agree that the character Sandra Dee from Grease is Gabriella from HSM, Danny Zuko is Troy, and Rizzo is Sharpay. HSM (OMG - did you notice the acronym?) is to Gen Y as Grease is to Gen X. Do you agree?

I know I might be a slow to put two and two together but as Communication Co-Chair for Sodexo's i-Gen Network Group, generational differences are on my mind these days. Especially after the group's recent launch kick off meeting in Gaithersburg, MD where members had an opportunity to network with one another and where members learned how i-Gen will help leverage multi-generational differences for our personal and professional growth. If you've seen High School Musical, you probably have a Gen Y'er (or younger) in your life and can appreciate the need for a professional group like Sodexo's i-Gen. i-Gen is one of seven Employee Network Groups that are organized by our employees based on our shared experiences and are just one of Sodexo's unique benefits. These groups are yet another way Sodexo makes it easy for us to connect with each other professionally and personally.

I'll admit, I am more of a fan of High School Musical now that I have tied it to Grease and I might even give High School Musical 2 a chance. Hopefully it won't be as bad as Grease 2 - Michelle Pfeiffer is no Olivia Newton John. Who else out there is a Grease fan and what's your favorite scene?

Love Grease also, Not a fan of High school musical, but like the recent movie Hairspray. The best song from grease has got to be. There are worse things I could do by stocard channing
